Indie Book Week: Polly Barton & Kavita Bhanot @ bookhaus

  • Bookhaus 4 Rope Walk Bristol, England, BS1 United Kingdom (map)

It is Independent Bookshop Week over the 17-24th of June! We are celebrating by joining forces with a celebrated independent publisher and partnering with Tilted Axis Press. Tilted Axis Press publishes mainly work by Asian and African writers, translated into a variety of Englishes.

We will be joined by Polly Barton (a translator of Japanese literature and non-fiction and author of Fifty Sounds and Porn: An Oral History) and Kavita Bhanot (A translator and editor). They will be focusing on discussing translation, focusing particularly upon Violent Phenomena: 21 Essays on Translation, and translating Where the Wild Ladies Are by Matsuda Aoko (an award-winning Japanese writer) along with sharing lists with titles such as The End of August, the forthcoming publication from Yu Miri (Tokyo Ueno Station). Both speakers are excellent.
